// Europe

Europe
Eight thousand years in one continent

From the Acropolis to the Arctic, Amalfi to the Azores — the world's most diverse continent in its smallest package.

Europe is the world's most visited continent for a reason — the density of extraordinary things in a manageable area is unmatched anywhere else. A Kyoto temple garden and Athenian ruins sit within 3 hours of each other by air. You can ski in the morning and swim in the Mediterranean the same afternoon in March. The infrastructure is exceptional, the borders (Schengen) are largely open, and every price point from backpacker hostel to palace hotel is catered for. The sheer volume of extraordinary cities — Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Dubrovnik, Edinburgh, Istanbul — makes sequencing the hardest problem.

Season guide

Mediterranean (Italy, Greece, Croatia, Spain, Portugal): May–June and Sept–Oct are ideal — warm, uncrowded, affordable. July–Aug is packed and expensive. Iceland & Scandinavia: June–Aug for midnight sun; Nov–Feb for Northern Lights. Central/Eastern Europe (Prague, Budapest, Balkans): April–May and Sept–Oct are perfect; winters are cold but beautifully atmospheric and cheap. Ski season: December–April across the Alps.

// Need to Know

Before you go

🇪🇺

Schengen Area = 90 days in 180 across most of Europe on most Western passports. It's 90 days total, not per country.

✈️

Budget airlines (Ryanair, easyJet, Wizz) make city hopping extremely cheap — book 6–8 weeks ahead for best fares.

🚆

Eurail/Interrail passes work well for multi-country trips. Point-to-point tickets booked in advance are often cheaper for single routes.

💶

Eastern Europe (Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania) offers 40–50% better value than Western Europe for near-identical quality.

🏥

EHIC gives UK nationals access to state healthcare in EU countries — free to apply, takes 2 minutes.
