Amsterdam
Netherlands

17th-century canals, world-class museums and Europe's most cycling-friendly capital.

Europe · Netherlands

Why visit Amsterdam?

Amsterdam is one of Europe's most beautifully preserved cities — the entire canal ring is UNESCO-listed, the 17th-century merchant houses lean over the water at improbable angles, and the whole city is designed around bicycles. The Rijksmuseum houses the greatest Dutch Golden Age collection in existence, and the Van Gogh Museum is genuinely moving. The Anne Frank House is essential.

Beyond the obvious: the Jordaan neighbourhood's brown cafes, the NDSM Wharf creative district across the IJ and a day trip to Giethoorn (the village with no roads) are the parts worth discovering.

Art Lovers

Rijksmuseum (Dutch Golden Age), Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk (modern art) and Anne Frank House make Amsterdam one of Europe's greatest art cities.

🚲

Active Travellers

The world's best cycling city — flat, safe dedicated lanes, and a bike gives you access to the Jordaan's smallest canals that no tourist bus reaches.

🌷

Romantics & Couples

Canal boat at dusk, tulip season at Keukenhof, the Jordaan neighbourhood at night — Amsterdam delivers the romantic European city break completely.
