Bulgaria's oldest ski resort. A beginner's paradise in the Rila Mountains, just 73km from Sofia.
Borovets is the oldest ski resort in Bulgaria and sits in a pine forest in the Rila Mountains. It's small (only 58km of runs), simple and extremely affordable — ski lessons, equipment hire and lift passes cost a fraction of Western European alternatives. The piste variety is limited and experts will exhaust the mountain in a day, but for beginners, families on a tight budget or a city/ski combination with Sofia it makes complete sense.
Per person per night — prices vary by season and booking lead time.
Spend 2 nights in Sofia first — it's a genuinely interesting city with excellent restaurants, nightlife and culture for almost no money. Then transfer to Borovets for 4 days of skiing. Total trip cost including flights will likely be under £600.
