The Scandinavian Alps. Norway's best ski resort with 53 runs, excellent powder and the most vertical drop in Scandinavia.
Hemsedal is known as the Scandinavian Alps for good reason — the mountains here look genuinely alpine, the terrain is varied and interesting, and the powder-to-people ratio is excellent. It's 240km from Oslo and well-served by bus transfers, making it a legitimate destination for a proper ski trip rather than just a day out from the capital. The resort is small enough to feel intimate but has enough terrain to occupy a week.

Norwegian prices are genuinely high — buying food and drink in Oslo before travelling saves significantly. Book accommodation with a self-catering kitchen and shop at the local supermarket.
