Los Angeles

The city of perpetual sunshine — sprawling, surprising and impossible to understand in a week.

Why visit Los Angeles?

Los Angeles has no single centre, no obvious walking logic and no obvious narrative. It is 503 square miles of neighbourhoods each with a completely different character — Beverly Hills and Compton are 5 miles apart. This is a feature, not a bug.

The LA worth visiting is found in Silver Lake coffee shops, Korean BBQ on Koreatown's Olympic Boulevard, the Getty Centre above the city, the Venice boardwalk at 6am and the Griffith Observatory at night. None of this requires Hollywood.
