New Zealand's best snow. High exposure, reliable falls, and Canterbury Plains views all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
Mt Hutt has a reputation as New Zealand's most reliable ski resort for good reason — at 2,086m it catches cold Southern Ocean weather systems better than any other resort in the country, and the bowl faces south (into the cold). The views are absurd: on a clear day you can see across the Canterbury Plains to the Pacific Ocean. The town of Methven at the base is small and authentic, and the local community genuinely welcomes visiting skiers.

Mt Hutt closes on high wind days — the exposed position that gives it great snow also makes it susceptible to closure. Always have a backup plan and check snow reports from Christchurch before driving up. The road up is dramatic.
