Edinburgh
Scotland

A medieval volcanic city of extraordinary drama — Scotland's magnificent capital.

Northern Europe · Scotland

Why visit Edinburgh?

Edinburgh is one of those rare cities where the landscape and architecture are so dramatic it feels theatrical. The Castle sits on a volcanic plug 80 metres above the Royal Mile. Arthur's Seat — an extinct volcano in Holyrood Park — takes an hour to climb and gives a 360° view of the Firth of Forth. The Old Town's closes and wynds inspired more gothic novels than can be counted.

In August, the city becomes something else entirely — the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the world's largest arts festival: 3,000+ shows across 300 venues for 25 days.
